Village Bakehouse Group is an Australian-owned company, operated by fourth-generation family bakers, the Stevenson’s. Brothers Bill, Rob and John’s baking heritage dates back to 1918 when their grandfather, Aussie Stevenson, established his first bakery in Dubbo. Our Bakehouses located in Dubbo & Orange are bakery-style cafés with a welcoming ambience. We serve our own Bakehouse blend coffee, modern breakfast and lunch menu, outstanding pastries and award winning pies. Village Bakehouse is a place of quality and flavour.

Retail Bakery Manager - Orange 

 We are seeking a highly motivated industry professional to take our business to the next level of customer service and a customer experience rarely seen outside metropolitan areas and who will keep up with the trends that this industry has to offer. You will be a hands on manager who is excited to be able to showcase our onsite Bakery and train and mentor staff to be as passionate about their work as you are.

JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Train and empower all employees to operate at their maximum capacity to achieve the business goals

  • Showcase the onsite Bakery to bring out the best in the staff and the theatre baking concept

  • Develop and implement staff training programs

  • Motivate all staff to share the common goal of being an industry leader in the coffee and Bakehouse cultures

  • Lead by example with a can-do attitude, professional manner, great organisational skills, customer service focus and knowledge of the products

  • Focused on a safe workplace for both staff and customers

  • Be hands on in preparing and serving products to customers in peak service periods.

  • Maintain food safety standards

  • Ensure all food and coffee made is of the highest standard

  • Address specific customer concerns in a timely and professional manner to ensure we do not have a repeat occurrence

  • Communicate with the wholesale department and suppliers for all stock ordering, returns, new menu items and quality control of produce supplied.

  • Oversee and post all social media communication to ensure it is relevant and of a positive nature

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years experience in a similar position in a fast paced food and hospitality environment

  • Proven business acumen and track record of leading a team of 10+

  • Experienced in rostering, labour percentages and P & L

  • Barista experience - drink coffee, live coffee, love coffee

  • A passion for outstanding products and customer service

  • Personable, approachable and willing to lead and grow with the team

  • Computer skills in word, excel, email, social media platforms, POS systems, Eftpos terminals

  • Above average problem solving skills

  • Available for a 7 day rotating roster, some weekends and early starts

Pastry Chef / Cake Decorator - Dubbo

The Village Bakehouse Group is expanding and as the business grows so do opportunities for our team.  We are currently looking for a highly motivated and creative Pastry Chef / Cake Decorator to join our team.

 

In your role as Pastry Chef / Cake Decorator, you will assist in the production and coordination of activities in the preparation, manufacture, and the baking of all products to Village Bakehouse Dubbo standards.  You will work to daily production numbers sheets to ensure that production numbers are met while using your creative mindset to deliver an exceptional product.  

 

Reporting directly to the Retail Store Manager your responsibilities within this role will include but are not limited to:

  • Abide by daily production numbers sheets to ensure that production numbers are met.

  • Prepare pastry or bread fillings, glaze, decorate and fill buns and pastries with cream, icing or prepared fillings.

  • Designing and decorating cakes and other pastry items according to customers' specifications or to Village Bakehouse Dubbo standards.

  • Operate machines which knead, cut, mould, mix and shape dough and pastry goods and/or mix by hand

  • Monitor oven temperatures and product appearance to determine baking times

  • Check the quality of raw ingredients

  • Ensuring that the display refrigerators are cleaned, polished, and fully stocked with cakes, pastries, and desserts.

  • Use various decorations and techniques to decorate cakes

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in a similar position

  • Be able to abide by daily production numbers sheets to ensure that production numbers are met

  • Food Safety/Food Handling certification (preferred but not essential)

  • A passion for outstanding product development and customer service

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Impeccable attention to detail

  • Have a creative mindset with a bright and bubbly personality

  • Flexibility to work from Tuesday through to Saturday from 5:00 am – 1.30 pm with the ability to work public holidays

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in a commercial kitchen

  • Demonstrated experience in food preparation, cooking and service

  • Possess a food safety/food handling certification.

  • Certificate II in Kitchen Operations or equivalent will be highly regarded

  • Previous experience working in a café/restaurant environment

Bakery Café Store Supervisor - Dubbo

You will be a proactive supervisor, dedicated to the professional development of your team and be as passionate about the business as our family are. You will possess a high level of enthusiasm and be eager to work with us to take the business to the next level.

 

In your role as Café Store Supervisor, you will assist the Retail Store Manager in the daily operations and cost control within the business. You will be required to work within budgets, control customer service, quality and safety and effectively manage and assess staff. You will coordinate activities and direct training to appropriate staff engaged in the service and preparation of all products.

 

Reporting directly to the Retail Store Manager your responsibilities within this role will include but are not limited to:

  • Positively represent and be an ambassador for the Village Bakehouse brand

  • Oversee and manage the daily operations of the business, ensuring financial targets are met

  • Develop a cohesive team culture amongst your team that reflects a positive work environment

  • Rostering of staff to pre-determined percentages

AFTER SCHOOL & WEEKEND JUNIORS - DUBBO & ORANGE 


Our after school juniors are pivotal to the day-to-day operations of our business. Their role is to prepare orders and offer exceptional service to our customers. Trained by our team of crew trainers, our juniors are coached and encouraged daily.

BARISTA

 

Our baristas are trained to provide our customers with the richest, smoothest espresso products, constant on-going training allows our baristas to develop and adapt to market trends.
